oops. when you hit ctrl-z in this box, it doesn’t just undo the last thing you typed, it undoes everything. eep.
crows woke me up. there are no crows in Cairns! I dreamt I was changing the water of a fish tank. one of my flatmates put the fishes into a container and sealed the lid. by the time i’d finished with the tank, the fish were all dead, or almost dead, half-suspended and stupid with lack of air.
today! I had nothing planned. no uni. all I did was go shopping for mundane things. so! the people I have so far met:
unit 13. the living room is only big enough for three people at any one time, the kitchen for one. there is no dining area. we each have refrigerator and pantry shelves, and try to cram our stuff in the freezer any way it fits. anyway:
Nia: age 21. ever helpful, ever nice, terribly likable because she sometimes says the kind of stupid or pointless things that after I say I regret for half an hour afterwards. works at a cafe and hates her job, but brings home pastries, yay. eats a lot of chocolate. likes to watch animated movies too! education, third year.
Adraia: only 17! and the only person i’ve met yet who drives and has a car. haven’t spent as much time with her, but is very friendly. she seems uncomfortable/uncertain around new people, but offers to make everyone clothes! lovelie curly hair. eats a lot of cereal. bachelor of arts at tafe, I think, first year.
Sandy: 23, from Germany. a recluse! spends all day out, then when she comes home, goes straight to her room and stays there. except to cook, but then takes her meals to her room. the only time i’ve seen her in the living room is when she had the other German girl in the complex over. all she seems to eat is salad. i’ve no idea what she’s studying, or where, or anything else about her, in fact, except that she’s not afraid to ask when she doesn’t know about something.. is very straightforward.
Jan: the manager. a second mother to everyone, giving them lifts to class when they’ve missed the bus, etc. she praises all her tenants like they’re her children. very eager to help, but too flakey to actually help.. i.e. says she’ll have something fixed but forgets about it immediately. also very straightforward.. and fanatic about us not having any parties.
Tanya: darling girl. always asking me to go out or come over or make plans, which will likely die off when she meets more people. very easygoing/easy to talk to and joke with or sit in silence with. after a few more days my first impression seems kind of off, in a crowd she tends to sink silently into the shadows like I.
